What does a hood suppression inspection include?
Every inspection follows the NFPA standard for the system and the requirements of your local fire department. Here is what we check:
- Nozzles positioned over each appliance and caps in place
- Fusible links and detection line, replaced on schedule
- Agent cylinder pressure and condition
- Manual pull station and gas or electric shutoff tested
- Tie in to the building fire alarm, where required
- Class K extinguisher placement and service
- New service tag and written report
How often is it required?
These are the typical intervals under current NFPA standards. Your fire department (the authority having jurisdiction) has the final say, and we keep track of what applies to your building.
| What | How often |
|---|---|
| Visual check by staff | Monthly |
| Inspection and service | Every six months |
| Fusible link replacement | On the schedule the code and manufacturer require |
| Cylinder hydrostatic test | Every 12 years |
What happens if something fails?
Moved appliances, missing nozzle caps, grease loaded links and disconnected shutoffs are common findings. We fix what we can on the spot, schedule around your service hours for anything larger, and give you a tag and report your fire inspector will accept.
What if we move or add a fryer?
Nozzles are aimed at specific appliances. Moving a fryer a few feet or swapping a griddle for a charbroiler can leave it unprotected. Call us before you rearrange the line and we will make sure coverage still matches.

Frequently asked questions
How often does a kitchen hood suppression system need to be inspected?
Every six months by a qualified technician, with a monthly visual check by your staff. Busy kitchens may need it more often.
Can you inspect without shutting down the kitchen?
We schedule around your service hours, often early morning or between shifts, and keep downtime short.
Do you clean kitchen hoods?
Hood and duct cleaning is a separate service. We inspect and service the suppression system and are happy to coordinate timing with your hood cleaning company.
What extinguisher does a commercial kitchen need?
A Class K extinguisher near the cooking line, plus standard extinguishers for the rest of the space. We service both.
What happens if the system discharges?
Call us. We clean up the agent from the system components, recharge, replace the links and get you back in service and tagged.
