Fire Extinguisher Inspection and Service in Phoenix

AZ Firetech inspects, tags, services and replaces fire extinguishers for commercial properties throughout Phoenix and the East Valley. We handle the annual inspection, six year maintenance and hydrostatic testing required by NFPA 10, and make sure you have the right type of extinguisher in the right place.

What does extinguisher service include?

Every inspection follows the NFPA standard for the system and the requirements of your local fire department. Here is what we check:

  • Annual inspection and new inspection tag on every extinguisher
  • Pressure, seals, pins, hoses and nozzles checked
  • Mounting height, signage and access confirmed
  • Right extinguisher for the hazard (Class K in kitchens, for example)
  • Six year internal maintenance and hydrostatic testing when due
  • Recharge after use and replacement of damaged units

How often is it required?

These are the typical intervals under current NFPA standards. Your fire department (the authority having jurisdiction) has the final say, and we keep track of what applies to your building.

WhatHow often
Quick visual check (pressure, pin, access)Monthly, usually by your staff
Inspection and maintenance with tagAnnually
Internal maintenance (stored pressure dry chemical)Every six years
Hydrostatic testEvery 5 or 12 years depending on type

What happens if something fails?

Low pressure, missing pins, damaged hoses and blocked access are the usual issues. We correct most on the spot, swap units that need shop work, and note anything that needs a new extinguisher with clear pricing before we replace it.

Is a full gauge enough?

A gauge in the green tells you the pressure is fine. It does not tell you whether the powder has packed solid, the hose is cracked or the extinguisher is the wrong type for the hazard next to it. That is what the annual inspection is for.

Frequently asked questions

How often do fire extinguishers need to be inspected?

A quick visual check every month (your staff can do this) and a professional inspection and maintenance with a new tag every year. Some extinguishers also need six year maintenance and hydrostatic testing every 5 or 12 years.

What type of extinguisher does a restaurant kitchen need?

Commercial kitchens with cooking oils need a Class K extinguisher near the cooking line, in addition to the hood suppression system and standard extinguishers elsewhere.

Where should fire extinguishers be mounted?

Visible, unobstructed and within the travel distance the code allows for your hazard type, with the top no higher than 5 feet for most units. We review placement during every inspection.

Do you recharge extinguishers after they are used?

Yes. Call us after any discharge and we will recharge or replace it quickly so you are not left unprotected.

Can you handle a large number of extinguishers across several properties?

Yes. We keep one schedule across your portfolio so inspections do not slip through the cracks.
