What does fire pump service include?
Every inspection follows the NFPA standard for the system and the requirements of your local fire department. Here is what we check:
- Annual flow test at churn, rated and peak flow, compared to the manufacturer curve
- No flow (churn) test procedures and logs for your staff
- Electric and diesel driver checks
- Controller, alarms and transfer switch checks
- Jockey pump and pressure settings
- Pump room conditions: heat, ventilation, leaks and access
How often is it required?
These are the typical intervals under current NFPA standards. Your fire department (the authority having jurisdiction) has the final say, and we keep track of what applies to your building.
| What | How often |
|---|---|
| No flow (churn) test, diesel pumps | Weekly |
| No flow (churn) test, electric pumps | Weekly or monthly depending on the pump |
| Full flow test | Annually |
What happens if something fails?
Low output, slow starts, packing leaks and controller alarms are the problems we see most. We compare results to past tests, explain what changed, and coordinate repairs and any impairment notice your fire department requires.
Why test a pump that sits idle all year?
Because it sits idle. Seals dry out, controllers fault and batteries on diesel drivers fade. The annual flow test proves the pump still delivers the pressure your sprinklers were designed around.

Frequently asked questions
How often does a fire pump need to be tested?
Diesel pumps need a no flow (churn) test weekly. Electric pumps are tested weekly or monthly depending on the pump and code edition. Every fire pump needs a full flow test once a year.
Who can run the weekly churn test?
Trained building staff often run routine churn tests. We can show your team the procedure and provide a log, then handle the annual flow test.
Does the building lose sprinkler protection during the test?
Usually not. The system stays in service during most pump tests. If anything requires an impairment, we follow the notification steps your fire department requires.
Do you service jockey pumps and controllers?
Yes. Jockey pumps and controllers are part of every fire pump inspection.
What if my pump fails its annual test?
We document the results, explain the likely cause and quote the repair. After the fix we retest so your records show a passing result.
