Backflow Testing

Fire Line Backflow Testing and Repair

Your fire sprinkler system connects to the city water supply through a backflow preventer, and Arizona water providers require it to be tested every year. AZ Firetech tests fire line backflow assemblies, performs the forward flow test NFPA 25 calls for, makes repairs and handles the paperwork your water provider requires.

What does backflow testing include?

Every inspection follows the NFPA standard for the system and the requirements of your local fire department. Here is what we check:

  • Annual test of the backflow assembly on your fire line
  • Forward flow test at the required system demand
  • Check valves, relief valve and shutoff valves inspected
  • Repair or rebuild of failed assemblies
  • Test results submitted to your city or water provider
  • Reminders before next year's test is due

How often is it required?

These are the typical intervals under current NFPA standards. Your fire department (the authority having jurisdiction) has the final say, and we keep track of what applies to your building.

What happens if something fails?

A failed backflow test usually means worn check valves, seals or a relief valve problem. We explain the cause, quote the repair or rebuild, and retest so you can submit passing results before your deadline.

Why does the city care about my fire line?

Water sitting in sprinkler piping is not drinking water. The backflow preventer keeps it from flowing back into the public supply. That is why cities track these tests closely and send notices when they are late.

Frequently asked questions

How often does a fire line backflow preventer need to be tested in Arizona?

At least once a year in most Valley cities, and whenever the assembly is installed, repaired or moved. Your water provider sets the exact schedule and sends notices.

What happens if I miss my backflow test deadline?

Water providers can issue violations and, in some cases, threaten service. Call us as soon as you get a notice and we will get the test scheduled.

Is backflow testing part of my sprinkler inspection?

It can be combined. We often test the backflow during the annual sprinkler inspection so you only schedule one visit.

Do you repair backflow assemblies?

Yes. We repair and rebuild assemblies and retest them so you can submit passing results.

Do you test domestic or irrigation backflows?

Our focus is fire line backflow preventers. Ask us about other assemblies on your property and we will tell you if we can help.
